Ukraine’s public debt has exceeded $ 90 billion and the country’s government is now working to restructure it. This was stated by the Prime Minister Denis Shmigal at the VII Kiev International Economic Forum (KIEF), quoted by the newspaper “Izvestia”.

The politician clarified that for this purpose the cabinet plans to increase domestic loans while reducing external debt.

According to official data, in 2020 the national debt of Ukraine amounts to almost 93 billion dollars or about 60% of GDP, the external – over 55 billion dollars or about 36% of GDP. At the same time, if we take into account the indicators of Ukrainian foreign debt in the national currency – the hryvnia, it decreases, while in dollars it grows. This is due to the strengthening of the Ukrainian currency.

At the same time, Ukraine’s GDP amounts to 154.8 billion dollars or 0.14% of the total world economy. Ukraine’s GDP per capita is one of the lowest in Europe – according to the World Bank in 2020 it was 3726 dollars.
