In Russia, for the first time after the collapse of the USSR, the title “Mother Hero” was awarded. The restoration of the order, which was given out during the time of Bolshevik communism, took place with the signing of a special decree by Vladimir Putin in August, reports Kasparov.ru.

The presidential decree is published on the website for legal information of the Russian Federation.

The first women to receive the title were the wife of the head of Chechnya, Medni Kadyrova, and Olga Dekhtyarenko, a resident of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, who is raising ten children.

The prize includes a one-time payment of one million rubles. The order itself is a five-pointed star made of gold, diamond and enamel with the coat of arms of Russia.

The “Mother Hero” order, introduced in August 2022, envisages that it will be awarded to women who have given birth to and raised ten or more children, but it is not specified what the reasons are for awarding it to the first two Russian women.

According to most sources, Medni Kadyrova gave birth to 10 children to her husband (so her official biography claims), and according to others – 11.
