Yesterday February 24, 2023, it was one year since Russia invaded Ukraine. In solidarity with the Ukrainian people, emblematic buildings in several European capitals are adorned with the colors of the Ukrainian flag. In Brussels, the Ukrainian flag is now hanging on the Arc de Triomphe in the Cinquantenaire Park.
Hadja Lahbib, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Foreign Trade and Federal Cultural Institutions:
“With the Cinquantenaire Arcades in Brussels, in the heart of Europe, draped in the colors of Ukraine, Belgium pays tribute to the Ukrainian people who show courage and resistance to defend our values, freedom and democracy. One year after the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, our country stands in solidarity with Ukraine and pledges to continue to support the Ukrainian people without respite.”
Mathieu Michel, Secretary of State for Digitization, in charge of Administrative Simplification, Privacy and Building Control:
“Russia’s aggression of Ukraine is the greatest threat to peace and security in Europe since the end of World War II. This invasion is a flagrant violation of international law, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. Belgium is and will remain in solidarity with Ukraine and is committed to continue supporting the Ukrainian people, as long as necessary. One year after the beginning of this war, we reaffirm this solidarity with the Ukrainian people, by raising their flag in this symbolic place that is the Cinquantenaire.”
